About Elaine

Elaine loves to cook, entertain, eat, and enjoy good wine. Growing up in Sonoma Valley, she spent many years in the family kitchen cooking for her parents and five siblings. In 1978, at the Culinary Institute of America, her passion exploded into a desire to learn the art of pairing food with wine. Working with the great chefs and winemakers of the California wine country, Elaine became a pioneer in producing events to promote these great wines around the world.

In 1981, Elaine founded Elaine Bell Catering – one of wine county’s first catering companies. They worked to establish the token style and grace of modern day wine country events. In those early days, Elaine was noted for unhooking the Kenmore gas range in her home and transporting it out to vineyards. Her goal was to provide restaurant quality foods for the vintners, enabling them to entertain food and wine writers from all over the world in their vineyard settings. The idea was an overwhelming success.

Today, Elaine enjoys traveling all over the world exploring new cuisines and cultures. She has camped in the wilds of Africa where she sautéed over an open fire, visited the spice farms of Zanzibar, and attended sophisticated cooking classes in Southern France and across Italy.

Locally Sourced

Locally grown, organic foods are the ingredients that have shaped Elaine Bell Catering’s imaginative menus since our beginning in 1981. Back then, Elaine contacted growers she knew throughout wine country to procure neighborhood breads, produce, cheeses, poultry, meats, and fish; this was the natural foundation of her culinary philosophy. Today, we continue this decades-long tradition and use organic, sustainable produce, hormone-free meats and poultry, as well as wild fish approved by the Monterey Aquariums Seafood Watch List.
